Mashantucket Pequot Child Development Center- Mashantucket, Connecticut

Working closely with the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe, NED developed the conceptual design for the proposed Mashantucket Pequot Child Development Center Expansion Project. This was a large scale addition to their existing child center, a project designed by NED a few years earlier. In addition to meeting the functional needs of a center that accommodates infants thru 5th graders the design incorporated nature, tribal culture and Native American motifs throughout. One of the most unique design elements in this project was the Culture Room. This room, specifically for teaching children about their heritage, was designed in the form of snapping turtle, a reptile with strong symbolic meaning in Native American culture.
